Kingston

Kingston is a small, quietly attractive village tucked into the chalk downland a few miles south-east of Canterbury, between the Nailbourne valley and the Elham Valley Way. Stone and flint cottages cluster around the parish church of St Giles, parts of which date to the 13th century, and the village retains an unhurried, agricultural character that has changed little in centuries.

Walkers come to Kingston for its position on the North Downs, with the long-distance Elham Valley Way passing close by and offering connecting footpaths through Bonsai Bank, Park Wood and Covet Wood. The bluebell and orchid displays in the surrounding ancient woodland are a notable spring draw, and the area is recognised for its butterflies and chalk grassland flora.

The Black Robin pub on the lane towards Barham provides a traditional country stop, and the village is well placed for exploring nearby Barham, Bishopsbourne (long associated with the writer Joseph Conrad) and the cathedral city of Canterbury itself, easily reached by car or by the regional bus services that follow the A2 corridor.
