Fleur de Lis Heritage Centre

The Fleur de Lis Heritage Centre occupies one of Faversham's most characterful buildings, a coaching inn with roots extending back to the Tudor period. The timber framework and period features provide authentic context for exploring how this market town developed from a medieval port into a significant centre for brewing, gunpowder manufacture and maritime trade. Exhibits draw on archaeological finds, historical documents and oral histories to illuminate centuries of community activity.

Visitors encounter displays covering Faversham's role in England's naval history, the tragic 1633 gunpowder explosion that devastated the town, and the industrial enterprises that sustained employment for generations. The centre captures the everyday lives of merchants, craftspeople and workers whose endeavours shaped the Kent landscape. Interactive elements and carefully curated artefacts bring these narratives to life, whilst the building itself serves as a tangible link to the past, inviting reflection on how places evolve whilst maintaining cultural identity and connection to their heritage.
