Farnham is a small rural village in east Suffolk, sitting on the gentle farmland between Saxmundham and the Heritage Coast. The village is centred on the medieval Church of St Mary, a flint-built parish church set among trees and surrounded by cottages and former farmsteads typical of this part of Suffolk. The A12 passes nearby, but the village itself remains a quiet pocket of lanes, hedgerows and arable fields.
Walkers can explore the surrounding footpaths that thread between Farnham, Stratford St Andrew and the nearby woods of Foxburrow and Blaxhall, with the River Alde to the south. The local landscape is characteristic of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Landscape, with sandy heaths, mixed woodland and big open skies.
Farnham makes a peaceful base or stopping point for visitors heading to the Suffolk coast, with Aldeburgh, Snape Maltings and the seaside town of Thorpeness all within a short drive. The Snape concert hall, home to the Aldeburgh Festival, is particularly close, making the village a useful overnight option during the summer music season.
