Edwinstowe

Edwinstowe is a historic village on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, long associated with the legend of Robin Hood. According to tradition, Robin and Maid Marian were married at the village's church of St Mary, a largely thirteenth-century building with a slender spire that still dominates the centre of the village. The church remains in use today and welcomes visitors interested in its medieval architecture and Robin Hood connections.

The village sits at the gateway to the Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve, home to the famous Major Oak, a vast ancient oak said to have sheltered Robin Hood and his Merry Men. The Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, just outside the village, provides walking routes, exhibits and family events that explore both the woodland's rare wildlife and its folklore.

Beyond the forest, Edwinstowe retains its character as a former mining village, with stone cottages, traditional pubs and easy access to the wider Dukeries landscape of country estates including Clumber, Thoresby and Welbeck. It makes a practical base for walkers, cyclists and anyone exploring north Nottinghamshire.
