About this attraction

About Cowdray Golf Course, Midhurst

Cowdray Golf Course sits within the 16,500-acre Cowdray Estate on the edge of Midhurst in West Sussex, laid out across gently undulating parkland at the northern edge of the South Downs National Park. The 18-hole course plays through mature woodland, open pasture and specimen trees, with the ruins of the Tudor Cowdray House and views towards the South Downs forming part of the backdrop on several holes.

The course was originally established in 1904 and has been extended and reshaped over the decades. Fairways are generally wide and forgiving off the tee, with the challenge coming from well-placed bunkers, greens set at varied levels, and the streams and ponds that cross parts of the layout. It plays to a par of 72 from the back tees and suits club golfers looking for an unhurried round in attractive countryside rather than a punishing championship test.

Visitors will find a clubhouse with a bar and restaurant serving lunches and drinks with terrace views over the course, a well-stocked pro shop, a practice range and putting green, and PGA tuition. Green fees are available for non-members, and buggy hire is offered. The course is a short walk or drive from Midhurst town centre and pairs naturally with a visit to the nearby Cowdray Ruins or the wider estate walks.
